I just heard on the news that flu numbers in Australia have almost reached total figures of last year…and the season hasn’t even peaked yet!

Protecting and boosting your immunity is the best way to prevent getting sick. Keeping warm (especially torso and back of neck), hydrate with warm water and warming hebal teas, moderate exercise that gets Qi flowing yet not drain the body, and of course good nutrition using in-season ingredients.  

My epic breakfast this morning is a base of porridge topped with stewed rhubarb (testing a product from work), a small amount of yoghurt, good quality muesli mix for crunch. I’ve added roasted chestnuts and freeze dried apple for something interesting and keeping with seasonal theme.

For my first go I used (clockwise from top): Gou Qi Zi (Goji Berries), Shan Yao (Chinese Yam), Dang Shen (Codonopsis root), Da Zao (Chinese Red Date), Chen Pi (Aged tangerine peel). 
These beauties are great for energy (hello productivity), blood (see ya anaemia), and digestion (bye bye bloating).

Is there no end to the awesome pumpkin soup flavour pairings? I couldn’t find sage at my local grocer so I threw caution to the wind and tried dill with my pumpkin soup - what a little winner! Topped the lot with burnt butter pine nuts and slices of medjool dates…the sweet and savoury addition was a stroke of pure genius. Served with pumpkin semi-sourdough rolls, my digestion is gonna love me!

Pears poached with ginger, lime and cinnamon (it’s a thing I have right now) with vanilla bean creme friache, toasted almonds, all topping the porridge.
